Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch announced Friday he plans to retire in the next few weeks.
Hoenisch's attendance at the Marathon County Sheriff's Department has been scrutinized in recent months, ever since an investigation involving his wife, Kim Hoenisch, was made public in December.
Kim Hoenisch pleaded 'no contest' to five counts including misconduct in office and stealing prescription drugs.
Nearly one month after the arrest of his wife on drug and theft charges, the Marathon County Sheriff remains silent on the accusations.
The wife of the Marathon County sheriff has been fired as a probation agent "for failure to exercise good judgment in dealing with employees and offenders," according to a news release.
The State of Wisconsin filed a complaint against Kim M. Hoenisch charging her with misconduct in public office, burglary, possession of narcotic drugs and possession of a drug without a prescription after the Justice Division of Criminal Investigation investigated the case.
