(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Us Magazine has obtained previously unreleased video of Michael Jackson's 1984 Pepsi commercial shoot in which the singer's hair is shown on fire.

Jackson suffered second- and third-degree burns to his face and scalp when pyrotechnics were set off too early during the shoot's sixth take. It is widely believed that the incident, which was witnessed by thousands of fans who had crowded the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, led to the singer's eventual addiction to painkillers.

The video shows a rear view of the singer as the pyrotechnics are prematurely set off. Jackson is unaware that his hair is on fire until he descends the stairs and stagehands rush to help extinguish the flames. Jackson can be seen with bare patches on his head.

Rolling Stone reports that Jackson was rushed to the hospital, but not before telling the crowd that he was okay.

Pepsi and Jackson settled out of court for $1.5 million. Jackson donated the money to the Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, Calif., where he established the Michael Jackson Burn Center for Children.

Jackson's "Victory" tour producer Larry Larson recently said on Good Day LA that Jackson wanted the video of the accident to be released at the time it happened, but Pepsi didn't release it until Wednesday.
