A national travel association has recognized the Greater Milwaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau for the way it has marketed its Bronze Fonz statue.
The National Council for Destination Organizations handed out a Destiny Award for the city's project titled "Bronze the Fonz: A Celebration of Cool in Milwaukee."
In August of 2008, the brew city erected a statue of the TV icon, showing the Fonz smiling and giving his signature two-thumbs up. Actor Henry Winkler was on hand to unveil the tribute.
The sale of autographed cast posters and contributions helped raise more than $17,000 for a literacy program run by the Boys and Girls Club of Milwaukee.
"Happy Days" aired from 1974 to 1984 and was based in Milwaukee.
The council is part of the U.S. Travel Association.
