French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is known for being sensitive about his height, reportedly made 20 short people stand behind him as he delivered a televised keynote speech last week.

The Daily Mail reports that Sarkozy's aides "vetted" people, making sure they were no taller than 5-feet, 5-inches (Sakozy's height), and had them stand behind him for the speech at the Faurecia auto plant in Caligny, France.

Sarkozy wears shoes with heels that make him 5-feet, 7-inches tall, and having the shorter group of white-coated technicians behind him during the speech made him look more statuesque, the paper reported.

A female researcher that was on the stage with Sarkozy told a French news reporter Monday that she had been chosen because of her small size. Asked by TV reporter Jean-Philippe Schaller if it was necessary for her to be no taller than the 5-feet, 5-inches she replied, "There you have it," according to the Daily Mail.

This isn't the first time that Sarkozy has tried to look taller than his actual height. He was spotted using a footstool while delivering a speech alongside 5-foot-11-inch British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and 6-foot-2-inch President Barak Obama on a Normandy D-Day beach in June.

Sarkozy was also ridiculed for standing on his toes during a photo shoot with his wife, Carla Bruni, and the Obamas at Strasbourg, France, earlier this year.
