(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - The latest meme to hit the Web – content passed on over the internet through linking and social media sites -- is of a man dubbed The Walmart Moonwalker, as an ode to the late King of Pop.
According to Mashable.com , the video of the dancer’s swift moves on the floors of the country’s biggest discount store chain has spread like wildfire in just a few days.
The YouTube user popdog04 actually posted the video back in January 2009, but after The Huffington Post and The Daily What picked it up this week, it's received more than 600,000 views.
While it isn’t known exactly what triggered the sudden interest in this meme, one thing is for certain, Pop has mastered the art of moonwalking. He has posted previous Moon walking videos on YouTube and has teased viewers with the message: “Where will Pop Moonwalk next? www.popmoonwalks.com.”
Before Pop, there was the Double Rainbow Guy , a meme that went viral on Facebook earlier this month. Then it caught the attention of comedian Jimmy Kimmel , who tweeted about the video: “My friend Todd has declared this is the funniest video in the world. He might very well be right.”
The footage of a “Giant Double Rainbow” shows an adult man, Paul "Bear" Vasquez, who is brought to tears by the beauty of the two rainbows. The video of Bear freaking out about the rainbow in Yosemite, Calif., in January 2010, has generated more than 8 million views.
Could the Walmart Moonwalker surmount Double Rainbow Guy as this summer's meme? If so, he's got ways to walk to top 8 million.
