Rafters hold first practice in preps for inaugural season

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW)- The new Northwoods League season kicks off this Wednesday.
And in case you didn't know, there's a brand new team this year in Wisconsin Rapids as the Rafters will hit the field.
And several players were at Witter Field on Monday for their first official practice of the year.
Rapids getting ready for its opener Wednesday visiting Waterloo, and the team is excited for its inauguaral season.
Says Field Manager Scott Laverty, "Really excited about the opportunity to be here, the players are starting to get in so we're getting everything ready to go that way, but definitely, great town."
Says Pitcher Mitch Running, "There's nothing better than being at the ballpark, being outside playing baseball, and there's nothing like competing, this is a really talented league."
Says Outfielder Brian Embery, "Yeah we're really excited to be here, we've had great support from the community so far, I've had a lot of people who are just really supportive and welcoming, so we're really excited, hopefully we'll have a good crowd out here for opening night, and thanks to all the community for being so supportive."
The Rafters open their home schedule at Witter Field next Sunday against Eau Claire.
