Koback's Big Night Can't Lead Rafters to Win

Posted:

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - Mitch Running battled through six innings and allowed just two runs, but a formidable Rafters line-up never got a big inning rolling in a 5-3 loss to the Green Bay Bullfrogs Wednesday night.

Cody Koback blasted the first home run at Witter Field for the Rafters on the season, deep to left-center, for an early 1-0 lead after two. Koback, the league's third leading hitter headed into the game, ended the night with two hits and two runs scored.

Koback's second hit, an infield roller to third, sparked the only rally on the night for the Rafters. After a double by Ryan Palermo moved Koback to third, consecutive RBI ground outs from Evan Laude and Brad Hallberg made it 5-3.

"You just have to be able to find a way on base," Koback said after his 2-for-3 night. "Especially late in the game when we really needed base runners, you just have to do anything you can." Koback entered the game finding his way on base at a .528 clip.

After Running completed his six innings, with five strike outs and no walks, Brandon Van Dam made his Rafter's debut. The Bullfrogs touched up for the California native for three runs on two hits including a home run. Left-handers Jesse Arreola and Kyle Anderson combined for two shut-out innings and allowed just a hit to keep the Rafters in the game late.

Two more meetings between the Bullfrogs and Rafters are set for tomorrow. The double header to make up one of two rain-outs on the season starts with game one at 6:05 in Green Bay. Tommy Organ will get his first start in game one for the Rafters while Kyle Anderson is scheduled to return the hill for game two.
