Wausau, WI - June 23th, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE) - The Wisconsin Woodchucks annihilated the Battle Creek Bombers tonight at Athletic Park, dropping 14 runs on the Bombers who could only muster 2. An impressive pitching performance by starter Troy Marks, and a phenomenally awful inability to throw strikes by the Bombers pitching corps resulted in the 14-2 romp.
Troy Marks had an impressive outing, picking up the win going 5.2 innings; while striking out three, walking two, and allowing only two hits. Sam Wolff relieved Marks and went the distance, recording the save but running into issues throwing strikes.
To say the least, the entire Bombers pitching staff had the same troubles, as they gave up 13 walks, to go along with two hit batsmen and three errors. Pat Terry led the offensive attack for the ‘Chucks, plating five runs on three hits, two sacrifices, and a walk.
Normally in a game where 14 runs were scored, the team would have more than 11 hits and three extra base hits, however shameful pitching and sloppy defense made that feat possible for the ‘Chucks bats.
Following the ‘Chucks win and an Eau Claire Express loss tonight, the ‘Chucks now move into first place in the NWL South Division. The Bombers will attempt to comeback from tonight's blowout tomorrow, as the two teams will meet again at Athletic Park with a 6:35 first pitch, as Nick Capito makes his first start for the ‘Chucks.
