Waterloo throttles Rafters 15-0 at Witter Field

Wisconsin Rapids, WI June 29, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE)- Waterloo Bucks (14-12) starter Taylor Massey at one point retired ten consecutive batters en route to a 15-0 complete game shut-out over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (9-15) Tuesday night.

Mitch Running allowed seven runs over his two inning start to spot the Bucks an early lead. Running put the first four batters of the game on base with two singles, a walk and hit batter. Running allowed four runs in the first, then two in the second before leaving the game with two walks and two strike outs.

Trailing seven-nothing, reliever Dan Johnson had the ominous task of keeping the score right there through the middle innings. "I used to see it as a slap in the face to be put in those innings," Johnson said. "But now I see it as a chance to go out and prove what I can do." Though he allowed two runs in the seventh, he pitched four innings of scoreless, two hit baseball from the third to the sixth to keep his team from falling any further behind. "I've seen those games easily turn from 7-0 to 7-6," Johnson added.

The Rafters offense did not cooperate however, mounting only one threat off the dominating Massey. The lefty used key double play balls to work out of a bases loaded jam in the third, the only real threat the Rafters mounted. On the night Massey struck out six and walked only one. He moves his record to 3-0.

A rematch with the Bucks is scheduled for 7:05 Wednesday night at Witter Field. It's Community Foundation Night at the ballpark. Join the Rafters for a celebration of everything that makes Wisconsin Rapids the outstanding community it is. Plus former WWE superstar Sergeant Slaughter will be at the ballpark.
