WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW)- As the Rafters are in their inaugural season at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, two local kids are also calling the town home for the summer season, Pointer teammates Cody Koback and Justin Jirschele.
Says Justin Jirschele, "You know it's been an awesome experience, we get taken care of really well here as far as travel and food, but as far as on the field, we've met a lot of great guys."
Says Cody Koback, "Playing with Justin helped a lot coming in because it's obviously nice to know someone when you come here."
Says Rafters Head Coach Scott Laverty, "It's really given the crowd someone local to cheer for, especailly when they've been having success and both him and Justin have been playing well for us."
Koback in particular has wowed those fans so far. He leads the team in batting average and RBI.
Says Laverty, "He's just been consistent for us, he's got the ability to do it as well and we're just continuing to look for big things from him."
Says Koback, "I've just kind of worked on my swing and coaches have helped me, and I made a few changes and it's worked out so far."
He'll hope to carry that success back to Point in the spring to continue his college career. And both he and Jirschele agree they'll have an even better bond with each other to carry back as well.
Says Jirschele, "You know getting to know Cody a little more than I already have, and like you said, playing with him every day and hanging out with him more off the field too."
