Rafters drop fifth straight losing to Waterloo 4-2

Waterloo, IA, July 9, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE)- Blanked through the first eight innings on just three hits the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters lost 4-2 to the Waterloo Bucks in Waterloo Friday night. 

Justin Jirschele doubled to lead off the game but Bucks starter Jared Wagoner retired the next 11 Rafters hitters. After a base hit in the fourth and one in the fifth Wagoner and reliever Matt Grabowski combined to retire the next 13 Rafters before Evan Laude walked in the ninth with one down. 

With Laude up to second on a ground out, Quinton Perry launched a deep drive over the wall in left center put the Rafters on the board at last. But a ground out by Ryan Palermo stopped the late rally before it started and the Rafters dropped game one of the second half. 

Kyle Anderson started and worked into the sixth inning. The lefty pitched out of jams in the first and third before he allowed a two out two RBI single on a ball that just hopped out of the glove of Cody Koback in right. Anderson finished with a new season high of six strike outs through five and one third innings. 

Two more games in Waterloo are on tap this weekend for the Rafters. Tomorrow Chris Green will toe the rubber for Rapids in a 6:35 start. The Rafters return home Monday July 13th to take on the Mallards at 7:05. Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey will be on hand at Witter Field, sponsored by the Payroll Company.
