BATTLE CREEK, MI (WAOW) - The Wisconsin Woodchucks (2-2, 20-19) got excellent starting pitching for the second night in a row and beat the Battle Creek Bombers (0-4, 14-24) Monday night at C.O. Brown Stadium 6-0.  Don Lisi started for the Woodchucks and delivered a gem that carried the team to a win.

Don Lisi (4-2) squared off with Kendall Thamm (2-5), and the game was a pitcher's duel early.  Lisi faced the minimum through 3 innings, while Thamm escaped a jam in the second, and the game was scoreless headed to the fifth.  The Woodchucks finally broke through in the fifth when Thamm walked the bases loaded, the walked Pat Terry to score Sharif Othman for a 1-0 Woodchucks' lead.  The run was the first of 3 scored by Othman, who finished 2-3 with 2 walks and an RBI.

The Woodchucks scored two more in the sixth, helped by one of Robbie de la Cruz's 3 hits, a perfect safety squeeze bunt, and Rob Lind's RBI double.  De la Cruz finished 3-4 with 2 RBI and a sacrifice bunt.  The ‘Chucks added more insurance runs in the eighth and ninth before eventually leading 6-0.

While the Woodchucks scored in the middle and late innings, Lisi continued to mow down the Bombers.  Finishing 8 scoreless innings with only 98 pitches, Lisi faced just 4 hitters over the minimum while allowing 4 hits and 1 walk.  Lisi also set a season high with 7 strikeouts, all swinging, many with his sharp slider.  Cory Hall (1-1) struck out two Bombers of his own as he recorded a 1-2-3 ninth.

The ‘Chucks will try for a two game sweep of the Bombers tomorrow night as the two teams return to C.O. Brown Stadium.  First pitch is at 6:05 CST, and will matchup Chris Licon (2-2) and Kevin Bryant (1-0).
