Wausau, WI - July 16th, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE) - The Wisconsin Woodchucks won their sixth game in a row tonight, defeating the Green Bay Bullfrogs 6-4 at Athletic Park. Cory Hall would pick up the win and improve to 2-1, while the ‘Chucks would improve to 6-2 and remain in first place in the south division. Green Bay would fall to 3-4 in the second half and fall below .500.
Cory Hall would absolutely dominate the first six innings, as he pitched a perfect game into the sixth inning, and a no-hitter into the seventh inning. An error by Robbie De La Cruz would nix the perfect game to lead things off in the sixth, while a barely foul double by Collin Kuhn broke up the no hitter in the seventh.
The ‘Chucks got things going in the second inning, as they would hang a four spot on the Bullfrogs. Travis Whitmore hit a one out single to get on base, before Brock Stassi would strikeout swinging with a full count. Consecutive two-out singles would follow courtesy of Brandon King, Robbie De La Cruz, Kevin Pillar, and Rob Lind to plate four runs.
They'd add two more in the bottom of the third inning, as clutch two out hitting by Brock Stassi, Brandon King, and Robbie De La Cruz would make the score 6-0.
Cory Hall's final line ended to the tune of 8.1 innings, three strikeouts, three hits, three walks, and three earned runs. Eric Fritz would relieve Hall in the top of the ninth inning with the score 6-1, and allow a bloop homer to the short porch in right field scoring two inherited runners, before ending the game 6-4.
The ‘Chucks remain tied for first place in the south division with the victorious La Crosse Loggers and Eau Claire Express. The ‘Chucks now head to Green Bay tomorrow night, before returning to Wausau Sunday to close out play leading into the All-Star break.
