Rafters Stretch Winless Start to 6 Games

WATERLOO, IA (Press Release) - The Waterloo Bucks came from behind three different times and eventually walked off with a ninth inning victory, 8-7, over the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Monday night in Waterloo.

After a pair of Bucks runs in the seventh tied the game at seven, Rafters reliever Kevin Wild allowed back-to-back one out singles in the bottom of the ninth inning. Then a routine ground ball to second snuck under the glove of Jordan Tackett and into centerfield, allowing the winning run to score from second. That winning run marked the fourth lead change of a game that featured three ties.

Starter Brian Hill worked into the seventh inning, allowing the first seven runs to the Bucks, with four coming in the third inning when the Rafters had an early 3-0 lead. Hill ended the night allowing eight hits, a walk and striking out one over six and two thirds innings of work. Wild pitched the rest of the game and suffered his first loss of the season.

Two out hitting was a positive factor in the game for the Rafters despite the loss. The offense battled back all night, scoring five runs with two outs. Justin Jirschele extended his hitting streak to six games with a pair of hits and an RBI, while right fielder Mark Strey drove in a pair and reached base twice.

The Rafters, now 0-6, are in Waterloo for two more games Tuesday and Wednesday against the 3-3 Bucks, both 6:35 p.m. starts at Riverfront Stadium. Wisconsin Rapids returns to Witter Field Thursday, June 9th for YMCA night at 7:05. Join the Rafters at the park Saturday night for the first Bulls Eye Credit Union fireworks show of the season. The show follows a 6:05 game against the Eau Claire Express.
