Rafters Lose to Eau Claire at Home

Posted:

Wisconsin Rapids, WI - Despite a quality start from Brian Hill, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters offense stalled late in a 5-2 loss to the Eau Claire Express Saturday night. Hill tossed six innings of three run baseball, but the offense mustered just two runs on five hits.

The first Rafters run came with a bang as Curtis Frisbie turned on a pitch with one out in the third and sent it sailing over the centerfield wall. The blast is Frisbie's first home run of the season. The only other run for the Rafters came on a Kyle Peterson double in the sixth to score Bobby Martin. The RBI knock gives Peterson nine runs driven in, a team high.

Hill allowed single runs in the second, third and fifth inning before exiting the game. A solo home run greeted Hill in the third inning, but he battled out of the frame, stranding two runners. After working out of jams in the fifth and sixth, the lefty closed out his start with three strike outs and a walk. The loss is Hill's second of the season. Tommy Danczyk followed Hill and allowed a run in the top of the eighth. Kevin Wild recorded the final five outs, but allowed an unearned run in the top of the ninth to set the final score at 5-2.

After scoring 26 runs in the three games to start the week, the Rafters have now scored just five total runs over their last three losses, with five or fewer hits in each of the three games. With their record now at 2-9, the Rafters turn Sunday to Brad Douthit to stop another losing streak. Douthit halted a season opening six game skid for the Rafters with his first win in his previous start.

The Eau Claire Express are back in town Sunday for game two of the three game series. It is Rotary at the Rafters day with first pitch scheduled for 3:05. After three road games to start the week the Rafters return home to Witter Field on Thursday June 16.
