Posted:

MADISON (Press Release) - The Wisconsin Woodchucks took the first game of a double-header with the Madison Mallards, but the Mallards came back in game two with a walk-off win.

The Woodchucks used a dominating performance from starting pitcher Tom Briner to take game one with the Mallards, 7-2.

Briner pitched six innings, allowing only three hits, one earned run and no walks while striking out eight batters. Briner improved to 2-0 on the season, and the earned run is the only that he has allowed on the season through 16 innings pitched.

Danny Susdorf and Austin Coleman both had two-out, two-run home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. The Northwoods League-leading hitter Carlos Escobar, Jr., also had an RBI-single in the first and another single in the third to raise his batting average to a sweltering .410 on the season.

In game two, the Woodchucks and the Mallards stayed tight through the first six innings as both teams struggled to score runs against the opposing starting pitcher. Woodchuck starter Nick Greene pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, while striking out four. Mallard starter Chris Lamb matched Greene, also allowing two earned runs over five innings with five strikeouts.

In the seventh inning, the Mallards offense finally broke through. Lead-off batter Justin Parr took a fastball from reliever Anthony Drabnick and hit it far over the fence in right field for a walk-off home run. It was Drabnick's first appearance of the season for the ‘Chucks, and he took the loss, with Matt Milroy getting the win for the Mallards.

The Woodchucks finished the day 11-14 on the season, with the Mallards ending up 17-10.

The Woodchucks will head to Waterloo tomorrow to take on the Bucks at 1:05.
