WISCONSIN RAPIDS (Press Release) - Five late runs and nine total hits proved too little, too late as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters fell 13-5 to the Green Bay Bullfrogs Tuesday night. Green Bay stunned the Witter Field crowd early, pounding out eight runs over their first three at bats.

For the third straight night a Rafters starter failed to work at least four innings. Brad Douthit, fighting command troubles in his seventh start, allowed eight runs over three and two thirds innings. A three run second and a four run fourth provided the bulk of the damage. Zach Mercer also allowed a four run inning in relief. In all the Bullfrogs sent at least seven hitters to the plate in four of the first five innings.

Prior to a four run fifth for Green Bay, the Rafters managed to break onto the scoreboard. With one out in the bottom of the fourth Brandon Hohl singled and Josh Cyr doubled to put runners at second and third. Sam Montgomery drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field. Then with two outs Justin Jirschele singled Cyr home from second to make it 8-2.

An inning later the Rafters showed life, scoring a pair of runs, sparked by a Bobby Martin's second of two base hits on the night. Garrett Nash doubled Martin home for the third run of the night. Then, one out later, Alex Edward doubled to drive in Nash. The final run for the Rafters came home in the bottom of the eighth when Sam Montgomery doubled and scored on a Bart Steponovich RBI knock.

Kevin Wild worked two scoreless innings, covering the sixth and seventh, facing the minimum with a walk, strike-out and double play induced. Kyle Peterson recorded the final six outs of the game, but did allow a solo home run in the ninth to set the final at 13-5. Rafters fall to 8-24 with one game left in the first half of play.

The Rafters four game home stand concludes on Wednesday at 7:05.
