WAUSAU (WAOW) -- A revolution in the way we think of heating and air conditioning may be starting in Wausau says David Baker, CEO of PDM Solar.
"A lot of people talk about being green, but we basically can have the potential to provide heat and air conditioning and electric generation for your house ... 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and have it completely off grid, completely no pollution, no emissions of any kind" Baker told Newsline 9.
Creating an air conditioning unit powered by solar and geothermal energy, the development means changes could be coming to an industry that has relied on fossil fuels since its discovery.
According to Baker, "if you look at the technology that are being used right now for both electric generation and for air conditioning, they were basically established in the 1800's with very little changes in the core methods of doing things."
Formulating an intricate weave of pistons, tubes, compressors and fluid into a fully-functioning air conditioner is one hurdle Baker has jumped. Making it size and cost efficient and breaking into the market is another that he plans to tackle in the future.
Despite the barriers to entry, Baker is optimistic about his creation made in Wausau. "In ten years I would say we would have probably the beginning of a revolution."
