WAUSAU (WAOW)--Friday night fish fries are a Wisconsin tradition. But for the next several weeks, this tradition gets even bigger.
St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wausau hosts a fish fry every year during Lent. It's a tradition that dates back more than 50 years. Organizers say more than 1,000 people enjoyed the church's fish fry on Friday.
But St. Anne's wasn't the only place offering a classic fish fry. The dinning room manager at the Hiawatha restaurant in Wausau says hundreds come to her family's business every Friday She says they're always busy, but she says estimates Lent brings in 75 to 100 additional people. The fish fry at St. Anne's Church in Wausau will continue this year for 6 more weeks.
