Inside Wisconsin’s Mabel Tainter Theatre

Amy Reise recalls the first time she ever saw inside the Mabel Tainter Theatre.

"It literally took my breath away" she told Newsline 9.

According to Reise, that's a reaction she hears often from people who see the theatre for the first time.

"People walk in and say, "I had no idea this was here, this is incredible!  I definitely want to come back here" she said.

Built in 1889 in the style of crown-jewel Victorian architecture, the theatre is still home to live theatre performances, more than 120 years after it was originally unveiled to the community.

The theatre was built by the family of Mabel Tainter.  Tainter died as a teenager, and though her life was short, was influenced by the arts.

The 313-seat theatre is adorned by wood trimming of hand-cared white oak, walnut and mahogany.  Leaded stained glass windows allow sunlight to illuminate the golden ceiling paintings that flow throughout the building.

Self-guided tours at the Mabel Tainter Theatre, 205 Main Street, Menomonie, Wis. are available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
