The Wausau East football team is hoping to build momentum this season after making positive strides last year. The Lumberjacks won more games than in the previous four years combined.
East finished in the upper half of the VFA North, but still well behind conference heavyweights Appleton North and Kimberly. So second year coach Steve Jung looked at his roster and saw a lack of size and an abundance of athleticism. And will make the switch to a spread option offense. He hopes that will help set his team apart.
"If we're going to bang it between the tackles with teams like that, that's not going to happen for us," said Lumberjacks coach Steve Jung. "We don't have the size to do it, but we have the speed and we have the skill players to spread the field and make the teams play the whole field against us." "I like it because we get to throw it a lot more, give me a chance to show off my arm a little bit," said senior quarterback Cole Nelson. "For this year's team, it suits us pretty well," said senior wideout Logan Taylor. "It allows us to spread everybody out and use our speed to our advantage."
