The Northland Pines football team is looking to do big things this season before Austin Ramesh heads off to Wisconsin.
The Eagles' star linebacker and running back rushed for more than 2,200 yards and scored 22 touchdowns last season. Pines welcomes in new head coach Eric Swanson, who's bullish on the Eagles' chances. But he said with a strong soccer program at Northland Pines, getting bodies to the football field has been a problem.
"We're going to be conference champions," said Eagles head coach Eric Swanson. "I think the idea of being conference champions in the eyes of these football players is the number one priority. We have that ability, and I believe at the end of the year, we're going to be conference champions. "Depth is our number one concern. If one or two go down in a game, that's going to pose quite a problem for us." "We don't exactly have the numbers we'd like to have, but I'd take our top 11 against another top 11 any day," said Wisconsin-bound Austin Ramesh. "Our starters are just as good as everybody else."
