PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW) -- Firefighters battled a house fire in Portage County for five hours Thursday.
It happened at 4022 Birch Drive in the Township of Dewey. The fire started just before 4:00 p.m., according to Dewey Fire Chief LeRoy Pukrop. The house was severely damaged, he said. No one was home at the time, but the family who lived there is displaced for the evening.
The American Red Cross helped assist firefighters and the family, according to a news release.
Multiple fire departments assisted on scene. The fire was extinguished by 9:00 p.m., Pukrop said.
