Marshfield Job Center gets new location

Things might look a little disorganized at the Marshfield Area United Way office, but that's because the Marshfield Job Center is moving in.

"We'll have to wait to see how this all comes together, but we're excited," said Paula Jero, Marshfield United Way Executive Director.

After a cut in funding from Wood County, the Job Center had to be moved from City Hall Plaza.

County officials said a change in a major employment program from the state made it necessary to cut funding.

"That really tied our hands, unfortunately. We'd love to be able to support the Job Center," said Brandon Vruwink of Wood County Human Services.

Officials agree that the Marshfield Job Center is an important resource.

"The Job Center in Marshfield is vital," said Vruwink.

That's why the United Way stepped in – to offer a new space for the Job Center at its Marshfield office on South Central Avenue.

"It really doesn't make sense if you don't have a job, that you're going to have to be driving to get Job Center services," said Jero.

The funding cut still has consequences. The Job Center will still be open three days a week instead of four, but officials said it's worth it.

"I keep looking at the opposite end of the spectrum would be to have no services at all available. So, I think being able to preserve three days a week is really a great thing," Jero.

The Marshfield Job Center will be open in its new location January 7th.
