Top school job in Merrill offered to Phillips educator

MERRILL (WAOW) _ The Merrill School Board has offered the job of superintendent to the top administrator of the nearby Phillips School District.

The offer to Walter Leipart is pending negotiations on a contract.

A school official said Tuesday that plans are to complete negotiations for the school board to formally hire Leipart on Feb. 25.

Leipart has been superintendent and director of instruction for the Phillips School District since July 2008. Prior to that, he was a principal in the Loyal School District.

The search for a new superintendent began in August 2011 when Lisa Snyder left for a job in Lakeville, Minn. Don Stevens was hired as interim superintendent for the 2012-2013 school year and his salary is $126,500, the school district said.
