Rhinelander doctor sentenced for child porn

RHINELANDER (WAOW) - A Rhinelander doctor was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to spend 90 days in jail Thursday for possession of child pornography.

Bruce Jacobson pleaded no contest to the charge in July in a plea agreement with prosecutors.

The 52-year-old doctor was arrested in December 2011 by Oneida County sheriff's deputies following an inspection of his computer, according to court records.

Jacobson resigned from Ministry Health Care last year.

According to the criminal complaint, Jacobson admitted to officers he struggles with using child pornography.

At Thursday's sentencing, Oneida County Circuit Judge Jay Tlusty withheld the sentence and placed Jacobson on probation for three years, ordering him to pay a $1,000 fine and to do 240 hours of community service each year for three years.

The community service is to include speaking to groups regarding addictions, Assistant District Attorney Scott Moller said.

Jacobson could be ordered to serve another 90 days in jail if he violates terms of the probation, Moller said.

The judge ruled Jacobson's jail sentence may be served in Calumet County.

The maximum punishment for possession of child pornography is 25 years in prison, Moller said.
