Gov. Scott Walker is making cancer research a priority in
the state budget.
He made the announcement at Marshfield Clinic Thursday
that the state will be investing $3.75 million in the Wisconsin Oncology
The money will expand cancer research and technology.
Walker said cancer touches many Wisconsin families.
"Someone dies nearly once an hour from cancer in Wisconsin.
That is a tremendous, tremendous challenge for us both on a personal basis and
a statewide basis," said Gov. Walker.
Walker said he hopes the state money will help promote
private investments in cancer research.
