Marathon County sheriff submits retirement papers

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -

The Marathon County Sheriff has officially submitted his retirement papers with the county.

According to the Marathon County Clerk, Sheriff Randy Hoenisch filed his papers on Wednesday. The clerk tells Newsline 9 those papers have been forwarded to Gov. Scott Walker.

Cullen Werwie, a spokesman for Walker, said the governor's office had not received any letter from Hoenisch or the county clerk by late Thursday afternoon.

Hoenisch announced last month that he would be retiring. The 57-year-old sheriff has been under scrutiny recently for staying quiet about his wife's legal troubles. Kim Hoenisch is set to be sentenced on drug charges.

Sheriff Hoenisch had also faced questions about records released in February that showed he had spent less than two hours in the office this year.

According to a letter sent to the county clerk, Sheriff Hoenisch said his last day will be Saturday March 23.
