WAUSAU (WAOW) -

Wausau police say shots were fired on the city's east side early Saturday morning and a 25-year-old Wausau man is in custody in connection with the shooting.

Carl Follie appeared in Marathon County court Monday afternoon. He faces two felony counts of 1st degree recklessly endangering safety and two misdemeanor counts of endangering safety using a dangerous weapon.

Wausau detectives said the incident started early Saturday morning at the Kwik Trip on Grand Avenue in Wausau, where police said Follie and another person got into a verbal argument.

"A male on one side of the argument produced a fire arm and as part of that argument he got in his car and left the persons on the other side of the argument proceeded to follow them in a car," Wausau Police Detective Nathan Cihlar said.

Follie and the others involved then got back into their vehicles and continued north through the city.

Authorities said just before 3:00 a.m. the two vehicles stopped near the intersection of N. 3rd Street and Short Street on the city's east side. That's when the argument escalated and Follie started shooting.

"A couple of rounds did go into two different houses and another round did go into a nearby parked car," Cihlar said.

Cihlar said there were people inside at the time, but no one was injured. A car parked on the street was also hit by bullets.

"The gun was legally possessed at the time," detective Cihlar told Newsline 9.

Some neighbors in the area said the shooting makes them worried.

"It's kind of scary now days to hear," Nichole Borchardt said.

Police said Follie was taken into custody shortly after the shooting took place.

"The investigation continues into whether or not anyone else had a firearm," Cihlar added.

Follie is scheduled to appear in court again next month. He's currently being held at the Marathon County jail.

Wausau police say the incident is still under investigation.
