WAUSAU (WAOW) -
The Wausau Fire Department got some hands on training today,
on a home damaged in a fire several years ago.
Fire officials set small fires in a home on Chicago Avenue in Wausau in a day-long
training exercise. They say they practiced many different training methods,
including ventilating a fire.
The battalion chief says those skills are important for
rookies and veterans.
"We can sit in the classroom and talk about fires, but like
any other job, you get better at things by repetition. This allows us to get
real world fire fighting experience in a real setting and practice all those
skills at once," Wausau Battalion Chief Paul Czarapata told Newsline 9.
The home used for training was donated to the city. Fire
officials say it was damaged by fire several years ago.
