WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Officials with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department say they won't address questions about a jailhouse attack until next week Tuesday.
Two Marathon County corrections officers were attacked by an inmate and taken to a hospital Wednesday.
Sheriff's officials say one of the officers was treated and released. The second officer remains in the hospital. Her condition is unknown.
According to a press release from the sheriff's department, the officers were injured when an inmate struck a female officer in the head. She was attempting to move the inmates to their assigned cells when one of the inmates became combative and attacked her. Authorities say other officers attempted to control the inmate when a second officer was injured.
Both were taken to Aspirus hospital.
County officials have not released the names of the officers or the inmate involved, but say both officers have been employed with the department since 2001.
Authorities are continuing to investigate.
The press conference will be held at the Sheriff's Department on Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m.
