MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -
A few candidates have already expressed interest in becoming the next Marathon County Sheriff.
The announcement for applications came on Tuesday, after Sheriff Randy Hoenisch officially filed his retirement paperwork.
That came amid criticism of the amount of time he spent in the office and his wife's conviction of drug charges.
One person who told us he's interested in the job is Marathon County Chief Deputy Sheriff Scott Parks.
"There's quite a bit of interest, both within the department with some of our command staff, detectives and also interest from the outside, other area law enforcement officers and some citizens," Parks told Newsline 9.
Those interested can file applications until April 12th.
