UWSP Tobacco Policy
Students at UW Stevens Point recently weighed in on the school's tobacco policies.
Thousands took part in a four question survey conducted by the UWSP Student Government Association or SGA. The students were asked to rank four options for the school: Going tobacco free, going smoke free, setting up designated smoking areas or making no policy changes.
SGA Chief of Staff Liz Westberg says point totals shows tobacco free with 1,780 points, smoke free 1,374. designated smoking areas 1,224 and maintaining current policy with 1,110.
Westberg adds SGA will use the findings as recommendations on student opinion on tobacco policy over the next three years, as school leaders potentially look at policy changes.
UWSP currently prohibits smoking in campus dorms and other buildings. Smokers must be 30 feet from a residence hall and not smoking is allowed near on campus child care facilities.
The Tobacco-Free Campus Initiative has been pushing for changes in campus policy.
