MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -
The wife of a Wisconsin state legislator will take over his seat on the Marshfield City Council.
In an uncontested race, Rebecca Spiros will become the Marshfield City alderperson for district 8. The seat has been held by her husband, John Spiros, a Republican who was recently elected to the 86th State Assembly district.
John Spiros decided to keep his seat on the city council for a few months in addition to serving in Madison. His term was set to expire this month. He had served on the Marshfield City Council since 2005.
"I'm pretty excited about it," John Spiros said about his wife's election. "I think she's excited about it."
Rebecca Spiros, a nurse at Marshfield Clinic, told Newsline 9 she ran for the seat to get involved in the community. She said she's excited about her new endeavor, and feels prepared for it.
"I've been by his side this whole time," she said of her husband's tenure on the council. "We've kind of worked as a team since the beginning."
John Spiros said he attended his final Marshfield Finance and Budget Committee meeting Tuesday evening. He plans to attend his final full council meeting next week.
