WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - A judge has cleared one hurdle for developers of a dairy farm for about 5,000 cows in southern Wood County.
Judge Tom Eagon ruled Thursday that Saratoga must issue building permits for the proposed Golden Sands Dairy, according to the Wood County clerk of court's office.
The Wysocki family, which wants to develop what it is calling a concentrated animal feeding operation, filed a civil lawsuit asking Eagon to issue the permits. The family says it applied for them before the town placed a moratorium on new construction.
The Wysocki family wants to develop a 7,000-acre farm with 5,300 animals between Wisconsin Rapids and the town of Rome. Saratoga leaders have opposed the plan.
According to court records, the company filed its application for building permits June 6 and met with a building inspector about the application July 17, two days before the town placed a moratorium on new construction.
The town argued the company did not submit all the required information prior to the start of the moratorium.
