Snow causes problems on central Wisconsin roads

Posted:

Several police departments from across central Wisconsin reported a number of traffic crashes due to accumulating snow Sunday afternoon.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department issued an advisory asking people to stay off the roads. They've responded to several crashes due to the weather, but say no serious injuries have been reported.

Meanwhile, Marathon County Sheriff's officials say a driver was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital after a head-on crash north of Marshfield around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

A lieutenant says the crash happened on State Highway 97 at County Highway C.

The details of the crash have not yet been released, but officials say the driver's injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Authorities in Marathon County say there have been a few dozen incidents reported, mostly slide-ins. They recommend that drivers take it slow and turn on their headlights for better visibility in the snow.

It was slow going on US-51 south near the highway 29 east interchange. Transportation officials said weather related incident slowed traffic in the area for about an hour.

State Patrol officials told Newsline 9 they had several officers patrolling central Wisconsin roads who were very busy Sunday afternoon. No major crashes were reported but they did say conditions on roads in the southern part of our viewing deteriorated quickly.
