WAUSAU (WAOW) - The trial for a 21-year-old Wausau woman accused of torturing, poisoning and killing her boyfriend's dog and then writing about it in her diary has been rescheduled for July.
Sean Janas has pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of animal abuse involving her boyfriend's dog, Mary, a four-year-old Labrador-shepherd mix. The dog died last June.
Her trial was to start May 1, but at a hearing Thursday, Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Grau ruled that attorneys needed more time to review some new evidence, according to online court records.
Janas' trial, expected to last four days, is now set to start July 29.
A hearing on Janas' motion to move the trial from Marathon County was also delayed Thursday until July 1, court records said.
Prosecutors say Janas kept a diary about systematically torturing the dog and about her "intense hatred" for it.
The criminal complaint says Janas poured Drano and bleach down the dog's throat and stabbed it with a knife.
Janas' attorney, John Wallace, did not immediately return a telephone message Thursday.
