On the Range: Marshfield golf uses simulator to prep for season

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -

For the Marshfield golf team, a glorified video game is the closest the Tigers will get to being on the golf course, until the weather improves.

"I think this is a big advantage for us," Marshfield golf coach Paul Foegen said."Here, you're getting automated feedback with the club path. It will show how far each club is being hit, club path, if you're inside out or outside in."

The Tigers have used this simulator at Riveredge golf course for the last three years. The machine stands at eight feet, nine inches tall, and more than ten feet wide. Players can practice their swing on famous golf courses across the globe.

"It's always fun to play on PGA tour courses, and TPC and what you see on TV. It's really fun," Marshfield junior Joshua Berres said.

"It helps us get to the mental mindset of playing out in Wisconsin Rapids, Greenwood, that kind of stuff."

But the simulator doesn't" completely replace the feel of playing outside.

"You just want to get out and play, test your skills and see where you match up with the other teams," Foegen said.
