Three cities in Central Wisconsin observed record low maximum high temperatures on April 20, according to the National Weather Service.
That's the equivalent of saying the coldest afternoon temperature on record for April 20.
Preliminary data from the National Weather Service indicates Stevens Point only warmed to 37 degrees on April 20, breaking the old record low maximum temperature of 38 degrees recorded in 2009 and 1970.
Both Merrill and Rhinelander tied their record low maximum temperatures for April 20. Merrill warmed to just 37 degrees on Saturday, tying the record last observed in 2009 and 1982.
Rhinelander's high temperature on Saturday was 34 degrees, also tying the record low maximum temperature last observed in 2009 and 1982.
Typically daytime highs over much of Central Wisconsin are near 57 degrees this time in April.
Cold air has been in ample supply around the region of late. The automated surface observing station in Land O'Lakes recorded an overnight low temperature of 1 degree in the past 24 hour period.
