MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -

The "Never Forgotten Honor Flight" got back from Washington, D.C. Monday night.

About 100 veterans around our state were given the opportunity to fly to the Nation's Capitol for free.

They saw memorials and monuments in honor of their service.

Organizers say the trip was a success.

"The people that came up to the veterans at the different memorials that just came up and thanked them and just wanted to be in pictures with them and the smiles on their faces you'd never believe that we had two 95-year-olds and one 92-year-old veteran on the flight today, and as they got off they looked like they were 19 again, they just had a great time," said flight organizer, Jim Campbell.

This is the 11th trip from central Wisconsin.

Organizers say since 2009, the honor flight has flown nearly 1,000 vets to Washington, D.C.

Newsline 9's Nancy Yousef was there for every step of the journey. She spoke with some vets on the trip and will share their some of their stories in the coming weeks.
