A refill on the McDill Pond in the Portage County Village of Whiting is suspended.
Village President Paul Stroik tells Newsline 9 concerns were raised about waterfowl on the drained pond bed.
"One concerned citizen has voice concerns about whether a federal permit is needed to fill the pond due to the number of waterfowl out there right now that are nesting," said Stroik.
Stroik says it could take days or weeks to hear back from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on the need for a permit.
McDill pond drained back in 2011 after the dam in Whiting started leaking.
More than $500,000 was needed to repair the dam. Local, county and state dollars paid for the repairs.
