WAUSAU (WAOW) - The driver of a pickup truck when his 27-year-old girlfriend reportedly fell out of the passenger door and later died of her injuries faces new charges.
Brandon Bender, 27, of Antigo was charged Thursday with second-degree recklessly endangering safety, a felony, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, according to online court records.
Marathon County prosecutors filed an amended criminal complaint after initially charging Bender with driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing injury.
Catherine Borchardt died from severe trauma to the head following the April 7 incident in Elderon.
A criminal complaint says Bender told investigators that he was driving in Elderon when Borchardt fell out the passenger door of the pickup after the couple had spent the night partying. He told police he had been drinking and smoked marijuana.
Prosecutors have said the incident was caught on tape by a security camera.
According to online court records, Bender's $25,000 bond was also amended during a court appearance Thursday. Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Huber said Bender could be freed from jail if he put up $10,0000 cash and he had a co-signer for the remaining $15,000, court records said.
