FRIENDSHIP (WAOW) - A jury on Friday convicted a 61-year-old Adams County man of murdering his mother and hiding her corpse in some woods near her home nearly three years ago.
Larry Clark of Big Flats was charged in November 2010 after investigators said they found skeletal remains near the home where he had lived with his mother since about 2006. An autopsy showed Marcella Clark, 79, died from a gunshot wound to the back, according to the criminal complaint.
An eight-man, four-woman jury deliberated about two hours Friday before convicting Clark of seven charges, which also included forgery and giving false information regarding a missing woman, according to Adams County Clerk of Courts Kathie Dye.
The verdicts followed four days of testimony. Clark took the witness stand for about three hours Thursday, telling jurors jury the shooting was accidental, Dye said.
The mandatory punishment for first-degree intentional homicide is life in prison. No sentencing date was immediately set.
