Unique art brought to life in Wausau

WAUSAU (WAOW) -

A steamroller, woodcut blocks, and several area high schoolers helped bring a unique type of art to life in Wausau on Saturday.

It's called Steamroller Printing. Woodcut blocks first get inked, than laid down on the pavement, after that a fabric is placed on top of the woodcut block.

Finally a steamroller runs over it. The finished product, a banner with a pretty neat design.

Colorado artist Sherrie York brought the idea to the Woodson Art Museum

"It's a unique concept, people are somewhat familiar with relief printing and this is something that's been done a few other places in the country but a relief printer who's dreamed up the idea and wanted to try it," said Amy Beck of the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. "You know it's an opportunity to meet the artist who does this for a living full time."

Organizers say the prints will hang in the Woodson Art Museum for several weeks.
