Marshfield prepares for Dairyfest

MARSHFIELD (WAOW) -

The month of June is recognized as dairy month in Wisconsin.

Local towns celebrate the dairy industry with many different events.

One of the more popular events is Dairyfest in Marshfield.

Dairyfest features food booths, a petting zoo, live music, and plenty of cheese.

"June Dairy Month is an important month for us, it's like a celebration," said Joellen Heiman, owner of Weber's Farm.

Weber's Farm is on its third generation of owners and is a proud supporter of Dairyfest.

"We like to be a part of it by donating our home farm fresh milk," added Heiman.

Weber's is providing 175 gallons of their milk for the event, for free.

"That's our way of helping," said Heiman.

The milk is produced, processed, and retailed right at the farm.

"They can see our cattle outside, they come into our store and see the fresh milk in the bag right on our shelves," added Heiman.

This is the 32nd year for Dairyfest.

The event has always taken place on the first weekend in June, rain or shine.

"It truly is a community event," said Debbie Bauer, organizer for Dairyfest.

Dairyfest begins with the mayor's breakfast on Friday morning from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

About 300 volunteers help with the all-you-can-eat feast.

"We serve about 2,100 people that morning to eat," added Bauer.

The three-day tribute to the dairy industry is set to take over the Marshfield fairgrounds park.

"There's music, there's food, there's entertainment, it's just truly a fun event," said Bauer.

Last year Wisconsin dairy farmers set a new record producing more than 27 billion pounds of milk.

That's up four percent from 2011.
