The Marathon County Public Safety Committee has approved a plan to pay for more court security officers.
Marathon County's Chief Deputy says the plan will help both the courthouse and the jail, because right now corrections officers are helping with courthouse security needs.
"By utilizing these positions we'll be able to alleviate some of the strain on the jail. There are certain responsibilities that could be transferred over to these deputies that would allow us to keep our staff in the jail," Chief Deputy Chad Billeb said.
The plan still needs to be approved by the full county board.
Billeb says members could vote on the issue as early as next week.
