WAUSAU (WAOW) -
Wausau planning leaders are recommending approval of a new home for the city's new warming center.
The center opened in February in thebasement of St. Paul's Church located in downtown Wausau.
Now,center leaders want to move to 3rd Avenue. Leaders say the new spacewill allow them to house more people and have better amenities.
"Weknow there's more need out there, there's no doubt about that. We hada very successful time with our guests, we got to know them, we maderelationships with them, they're wonderful people. Now we want tofind ways to help them better," Diane Borchardt, warming centercoordinator said.
Butthere is some opposition to the change. We talked with one businessowner who didn't want to go on camera. But, she said she has some concernsabout safety if the warming center is moved to 3rd Ave.
Now, the recommendation will go to the Common Council on July 9 for a vote.
