WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) – The man who police say shot and killed a Wisconsin Rapids man in 2008 appeared in court for the first time Wednesday and waived his right to a timely preliminary hearing.
Joseph Reinwand, 54, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide and arson in the old slaying last month after prosecutors learned new information from one of Reinwand's former cell mates.
Wood County prosecutors accuse Reinwand of fatally shooting Dale Meister three times at his home in Wisconsin Rapids in 2008.
Reinwand, an inmate at the prison in Stanley in an unrelated case, told a judge on Wednesday that he was too poor to hire his own attorney, according to Wood County online court records.
No new court dates were immediately set.
According to court records, one of Reinwand's one-time prison cellmates told authorities that Reinwand confessed to the murder and even reenacted it.
