State Patrol Sgt. Carrie Johnson was on duty on Highway 29, east of Wausau, when she saw a man walking on the side of the road.
"I thought he was just a pedestrian walking with a backpack in his possession," said Sgt. Johnson.
Johnson says she stopped to see if the man needed help. She says he then took off his backpack and tossed it into the grass.
"I made contact with him, he denied having the backpack, I went back and I called for back up," she said.
The man was arrested. Officers searched his bag and found two loaded guns, one of them turned out to be stolen.
Johnson says the man also had some marijuana, and a warrant out for his arrest from Green Bay Police.
But that's not all.
"I come to learn that there was a vehicle that was broke down on the interstate that was about a quarter to a half a mile east of our location, and he came from that vehicle that had been broken down," said Johnson.
Johnson says a man and a woman were in that car.
"I noticed that after I had made contact with him that he had got on the phone and made a phone call and I assume it was to them because by the time we got to the vehicle those people fled and ran into the woods," she said.
State Patrol officers say the man told them the other people in the car were his brother and his brother's wife.
Officers say they tried to find the two, since one of them is on probation. But after two hours, the search was called off.
"I don't have anything more to go on to find these people," said Johnson.
Johnson says there are no charges against them at this time.
The names of those involved have not been released yet. Officers say the man arrested Thursday is expected to be in court Friday.
