UPDATE: Skyward to stay in Wisconsin; provision kept in state budget

Posted:

A Stevens Point education company will still be able to sell its products in Wisconsin.

According to the Associated Press, Governor Scott Walker did not veto part of the new state budget that allows for multiple companies to operate student information systems in the state.

Last month, the Wisconsin Legislative Joint Finance Committee delivered a big win for Skyward. The committee voted to change how the state contracts for a statewide student information system. It essentially voided a contract won by Minnesota based Infinite Campus, to be the only company able to sell its products in the state.

That means multiple companies, including Skyward, can provide the services.

Skyward officials threatened to leave the state if they were not allowed to sell their product in Wisconsin. That would mean taking more than 700 jobs out of the state.

Cliff King, Skyward CEO, told Newsline 9 this afternoon everyone at the company is very excited.

"This is fantastic news for our company," he said. Adding that leaders at Skyward plan to expand in the next few years and add new jobs in central Wisconsin.

We tried calling officials at Infinite Campus for comment, but were unable to reach officials at the company.
